Thomas Keiser Carolina Panthers Rookie Game Worn & Signed Nike Single GloveThomas Keiser is a free agent defensive end, most recently playing for the Arizona Cardinals. The linebacker has also played for the Carolina Panthers, San Diego Chargers and the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. Keiser played college football at Stanford University. Keiser played the first two seasons of his Stanford career at defensive end before switching to linebacker in the Cardinal’s new 3-4 alignment.
As a junior, Keiser earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors for second consecutive season. He played in and started al 13 games for the Cardinals at outside linebacker. Keiser finished the season with 38 total tackles, including 23 solo stops. His 9.5 tackles for loss was third best on the Cardinal, as were his 4.5 sacks. In addition, he ended season with an interception, two pass break ups, two QB hurries, and a fumble recovery.
Keiser had a tremendous sophomore season and was named Honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection. He started all 13 games at defensive end and accumulated 47 tackles overall, including a team-high 15.0 tackles-for-loss, which ranked tied for third in the Pac-10. He also finished tied for fourth in the Pac-10 with 9.0 sacks for a loss of 70 yards.
As a redshirt freshman, Keiser made significant contributions on the defensive line earning first team freshman All-America honors by the Football Writers Association of America and The Sporting News. He was also tabbed second team freshman All-America honors by CollegeFootballNews.com. Keiser is a smart and instinctive player who plays with good discipline, keeping his gap control consistently. He has great strength at the POA to anchor and play with good leverage and strings out plays well to the sideline, and uses his hands well to shed blocks consistently.
In 2011, Keiser played in eight games for the Panthers after spending the first eight games on the Panthers’ practice squad. He did a tremendous job tieing for second on the team with four sacks to go along with one quarterback pressure. He also logged nine tackles and one interception and was responsible for one special teams tackle. On November 20th, 2011 in Detroit in just his second NFL game, Keiser corralled his first two career sacks – dropping Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford for losses of five yards and four yards. Two weeks later in Tampa Bay on December 4th, he took down Buccaneers quarterback Josh Johnson for a 12-yard sack. Keiser wasn’t finished though grabbing a wobbly Johnson pass on Tampa Bay’s opening second-half possession for his first career interception to set up a touchdown. Less than three weeks later on December 24th the Tampa Bay Bucs visited Carolina and Keiser sacked Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman for a four-yard loss.
