Thespian Woman
Standing Before Harp With
Comedy And Tragedy Masks
Antique Cast Iron Bookends
This pair of 1920\'s era Art Nouveau, theatrical themed bronze clad, cast iron bookends beautifully depicts a young woman in Greek style costume that flows down to cover her feet. She is standing before an oversized harp or lyre, with holds the twin masks of Comedy and Tragedy on either side. Only mark found on back is \"140\" but now indication of date of production or manufacturer. These classic bookends are quite tastefully presented, and would make a marvelous addition to your home or office library.
The bookends themselves measure approximately 6\" tall, by 5.5\" wide, and 2.5\" deep, and neither bookend has any felt pads on their bare metal bases. Unfortunately lacking any specific information regarding the manufacturer, all that is certain is these are basically heavy, poured iron casts, with the rubbed electroplated dark bronze patina that still highlighs much of the figure\'s finer features, with some light pitting and scratches along a few surfaces. Clearly showing a unique Art Nouveau style, yet also having a warm and wonderfully weighty feel that would add charm to any shelf upon which they rested. Overall a really nice pair, and generally in very good condition.
