TWO 1963 FLEER COMPLETE SETS IN UNCUT SHEET 6 PANEL FORM
No, that is not a misprint or a typo. However, first, a little backdrop on the very popular and underrated \'63 Fleer issue
A LITTLE HISTORY ON THIS COMPELLING SET
The cookie crumbled quickly for the enterprising Fleer Corporation in 1963.
In their first attempt to challenge Topps\' monopoly on current player cards, the ambitious manufacturer substituted a cherry-flavored cookie into their packs in place of bubble gum. Without gum, Fleer believed they had uncovered a loophole that would allow them to participate in this lucrative market.
Unfortunately, Topps proved to be a \"tough cookie\" when it came to preserving their stranglehold. The card giant successfully launched a lawsuit against Fleer that limited their competitor to a single, 67-card series (66 numbered cards, plus one unnumbered checklist).
But despite its brief life span, the 1963 Fleer set still enjoys a devoted, near cult like following some 45 years later.
Remarkably, or shall I say impossibly, offered here are the only 2 known confirmed examples of this set being offered in an absolutely fascinating UNCUT SHEET FORM. For those of you who have collected 1963 Fleer cards and sets, this offering is simply too good to pass up.
Set #1
This 1963 Fleer baseball complete set (66 cards) in rare uncut panel/sheet forms a complete 66 card set in the never-before-seen format of 6 uncut panels. These, along with those in the other lot offered, are the only UNCUT PANELS of 1963 Fleer baseball (aside from 1-3 card panels) which have ever been confirmed to have surfaced. At one time these panels formed a full sheet given the irregular cut at bottom edge and were presumably cut down for more practical storage. They can be positioned in their original half sheet form with the irregular edge\'s matching up perfectly. As Illustrated by this lot and the lot that follows, the Joe Adcock and checklist cards were swapped out for each other confirming that they were short printed. Each card takes the others place in this remarkable two 66 card complete set treasure.
Set #2
This 1963 Fleer near complete set (65 of 66 cards)plus the scarce checklist is in the same impossible rare format of 6 uncut panels. The only card missing here is the Joe Adcock card, however, in it\'s place, if you recall in the above description, is the other short printed rare checklist.
These uncut panels would make a stunning, in fact, an irresistible addition, to anyone who already has put together the complete set from this issue.
As a note: I would be willing to entertain offers to sell separately. Hard to buy one without the other, though.
