DescriptionHere\'s a classic Dobbs fedora with something extra: the sweatband imprint is also marked FOUR SEASONS, perhaps an allusion to the medium-weight felt that makes the hat suitable for year-round wear. It seems to be a pretty rare model, the first \"Four Seasons\" hat to come through our hands in quite some time.
       And how about that unusual color combination! The deliciously soft fur felt is done in an unusual and distinctive shade of dark muted blue-gray, with a maroon 2\" fine-weave ribbon hatband. The pinch-front crown is about 4 1/4\" tall—and say, be sure to check out the streamlined welt on that 1 7/8\" brim: that\'s the Dobbs Guild Edge, known elsewhere as the Cavanagh Edge, a smooth welt formed by hand during the felting process rather than folded over and sewn down later. The result is a beautiful, streamlined brim edge without the obvious seam and stitching of a standard overwelt. That\'s a mark of high quality, impossible to reproduce today.
       The sweatband is made of gold-embossed black leather, with that rare DOBBS FOUR SEASONS imprint and the name of the original retailer, Model Clothing Co. of Joplin, Mo. The \"Cushion-Aire\" script at the front of the sweatband refers to that pattern of embossed chevrons at the back of the sweatband intended to assure a more comfortable fit. The lining is of ribbed ivory fabric, sturdier than shiny satin, with the Dobbs crest in black and gold on the center panel.
       Size: The inside circumference at the sweatband is 22 1/4\", which puts it in the size 7 1/8 range. Run a fabric tape measure around your cranium, north of the eyebrows, and compare the result.
       Condition: Old and used, but still quite wearable and flaunting that debonair style. The felt is slightly rumpled, there is some discoloration on the ribbon hatband, and the leather sweatband has some splits and cracks that so far do not present a problem.
