RARE CIVIL WAR US IMPORT BRITISH 1856 ENFIELD SWORD BAYONET & SCABBARD For Sale

A very interesting and possibly unique example of a British 1856 Pattern Enfield Sword Bayonet that was imported into the USA during the American Civil War. It is typically unmarked and has no maker marks to the blade or hilt. It does have the numbers \"81\" stamped to the pommel and \"12\" to the top of the pommel. The grips are chequered leather and held together with three steel pins. The blade is of yataghan form and has commensurate light age wear. What makes this a fascinating bayonet is that the scabbard frog is stamped with a US Ordnance mark and the scabbard is of a type that I have never seen before - it is not the official regulation type of scabbard that would have been issued with this bayonet which had steel mounts. Thisscabbard is very finely stitched and of fine quality. Both the scabbard frog and the scabbard still retain the original cord binding that would have kept both together - please see the pics. I am assuming that this would have been issued to Union troops, probably at the beginning of the war when both sides had to import arms to make up for their own deficiencies. Would be interested to know more about it as I cannot find anything comparable on the net. Condition of both the scabbard frog and scabbard is excellent. Blade length is 23 inches (28 inches overall).
