WESTERN BOTTLE sale
Rare 1870s Western "CUTTER / MID CROWN / SOLE AGENTS" A Great Example!
Now for something special from old collection that you’ll have a tuff time
finding in this color. This old Western Cutter whiskey bottle was found over 30
years ago in a logging camp in Mendocino County, California. It’s one of the
best examples of this particular Cutter mould I’ve seen with a very strong olive
color and a giant almost stove pipe applied top. These bottles generally don’t
come with much character or color but this one is an exception.
Hand blown into a two part mould by the San Francisco Glass Works in a
stunning olive amber colored glass, circa mid 1870s. Classic curved leg “R”s
that many of the best Western 5ths have in common that was a trade mark of the
artisan mould maker. Embossing reads: “J.H. CUTTER / OLD / BOURBON / E. MARTIN
& CO. / SOLE AGENTS” all across the face. In the center of the embossing is
a fancy crown. NO DAMAGE, I can’t even find so much as a tiny scratch. For
complete accuracy I note two very shallow in the making bubbles that didn’t
completely form that have no broken or rough edges. Lots of little bubbles
scattered throughout and real nice overall glass character. Has been
professionally cleaned inside and out to remove some stain, it’s looks
excellent.
The better specimensrarely ever leave collectors hands and if
they do their usually traded privately. This is a seldom offered
beautiful bottle with everything you’d want in an early Western 5th.
