Lovely intricately carved, pear wood head w/ beautiful black painted hair sculpted braid w tiny red hair decorations on each side,delicate facial features,accented in India ink forearms & intricate hands as well ,all created by a Chinese master artisan. The cloth bodies and layered silk removable outfits Matching hat and shoes etc.,were all hand sewn by the children of the DOH Christian Mission.

She is adorable 7\" sweetest smile. Clothed in layers of hand sewn silk w/ pastel green frog closures & trim. A geometric textured motif covers her pink ,(fully lined ) tunic layered outfit. Her silk head band has a detailed embroidered sacred heart decoration in the center.surrounded by decorative embroidered designs
Attached beneath the head dress is her long dark hair pony tail, w/ adorable carved hear decorations painted red tiny bangs. She even has small silk matching shoes on her little feet.
She has matching striped pastel green leggings have pink trim to compliment the top ,there is attention to every diminutive detail. All these details are indicative of the year as they match the style in China at the turn of the last century.
This doll is in remarkable shape, some fading in outer tunic , no rips or tears or odors from a smoke free home

The Door Of Hope Christian (Protestant) Mission was created Around Shanghai
or Canton China in 1901, to help destitute children survive The Doll heads and delicate features, hands ,arms to the elbow are all carved from Chinese
Pear wood ,smooth as satin, raw and unvarnished
Hair eyes and lips are painted. The body is cloth stuffed with raw cotton. The girls of the mission hand made each dolls clothing, replicating exactly the clothing
worn by the Chinese people of that time
Door Of Hope Dolls are unmarked though some had tags marked “N.E. Branch Women’s
Foreign Missionary Society” It is believed that no more than 50,000 dolls were produced. Various dolls made ,were dressed
representing children of several ages and adults of different stations and professions all with
appropriate differing styles of attire. They each posses tiny, unique details, home made by many different ,
young mission girls
