Only Known Ty Cobb & Harry Heilmann dual signed 1927 Ban Johnson Official American League Baseball. This nearly 100 year old baseball has remarkably bold stamping which allows us to easily date this ball to 1927 during the PLAYING DAYS of both Cobb and Heilmann. This ball is the Tigers equivalent to the Yankees Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig signed baseball.
The baseball has been authenticated and graded by PSA. PSA gave the Cobb signature a 7 and the Heilmann signature a 5. It is extremely rare to find a Harry Heilmann signature on the sweet spot. To make this ball even more unique, it can be displayed so that both signatures can be seen together. Alternatively, this ball can be displayed so that only Cobb or only Heilmann is visible.
Ty Cobb was elected to the inaugural Hall of Fame class in 1936. He still holds the highest career batting average at .367 and the most career batting titles at 12. Often ranked in the top 3 players to ever play the game, Ty Cobb set 90 MLB records during his career (1905-1928). Ty Cobb hit his 4000th hit during his 1927 season when this ball was likely signed.
Harry Heilmann played from 1914-1932 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1952. He won 4 batting titles (1921, 1923, 1925, 1927) including hitting .398 in 1927 and finished his career with a .342 average (12th highest of all time). He remains one of only 5 American League players to hit .400 for a season (Ty Cobb is one of the other 4 players). Heilmann was known as a line drive hitter who hit the ball extremely hard. His problem was his lack of speed. Nicknamed \"Slug\", he was known as one of the slowest men in the game. Despite his lack of speed he was one of the games greatest hitters. It has been said that his inability to beat out infield hits was the only thing that prevented him from matching Rogers Hornsby as the greatest right handed batter in baseball history. From 1921-1927 he combined for a .380 average!!! In 1927 he finished 2nd in MVP voting behind Lou Gehrig. After retiring from baseball he became a play by play announcer for the Tigers from 1934 until the year before his death in 1951.
