He lived in retirement in northern Arizona for decades and died in December 2009 at age 96. At the time, he was the oldest living Yankees and the last living teammate of Lou Gehrig. Henrich autographed the 152-page media guide in black ballpoint pen on the cover and wrote \"Many forgotten incidents in here. Tommy Henrich, Old Reliable.\" That was his nickname and he\'s still among the franchise\'s top 20 in many offensive categories along with being the first player ever to hit a walk-off home run in a World Series game (1st game of 1949 Series vs Brooklyn Dodgers, ninth-inning leadoff homer off Hall of Famer Don Newcombe for a 1-0 victory). Henrich was a five-time all-star right fielder with New York from 1937-42 and 1946-50 and was on five world championship teams.
