This smoker features WOOD CHOPPER. He carries an AXE and the Pine Tree he cut down.

The piece has been handcrafted by the wood artists located in the Erzgebirge region of Germany.

This is wood dolls (like nutcrackers) that pull apart in the middle and have a metal tray for you to burn incense in. You light the incense and reassemble the smoker doll and the smoke will drift from the dolls mouth area which is usually a pipe mounted. They are really neat and a great conservation piece

This smoker figurine is approximately 9\" tall.

Looking back in history smoke and incense have long played a role in life and religion. Especially in the Christmas story, Frankincense and Myrrh were brought by the Three Wise Men. In the 19th Century, in parts of the Erzgebirge, it was the practice to take incense to every room in the house on Christmas Eve, New Year\'s Eve or the feast of Epiphany. Burning incense is reputed to drive off evil spirits and protect the occupants from ill health. The first smokers are found in pattern books and price lists around 1850. Pipe smoking became popular at the beginning of the 19th century, and toy makers used this new \"trend\" to depict various people of village life.
