• Thispseudo-scale stunt model wasdesigned and built with one purpose in mind--enjoyment!In this respect we were thoroughly successful. Theflight characteristics are equal to thebest contest winning \"boxes\" while the scale jet \'fighter styling is sorealistic that it has caused numerous arguments among spectatorswho insist it is a scale reproduction of a Douglas \"Skyhawk\", Grumman \"Tiger\" or some other Navy fighter. Through the use ofa two wheel drop-off \'gear, the craft strikes a most realistic pose as it roars around the circle with the whirling propeller virtually invisible and with no wheels trailing in the slipstream.
Past experience has dictated the, desirability of a \"straight line design\" for stunt craft. A force arrangement of this type with wing, horizontal tail, and thrust line in a straight line with each other possesses the advantage of having identical flight characteristics during any flight attitude.\"Lil\" Blue Angel\" proves this theory by not exhibiting any upward or downward surgeat the end of manoeuvres requiring inside and outside loops.
Although our \"Lil\' Blue Angel\' sports a V.S. Navyblue paint job with white trim there is no reason why the model could not be coloredto resemble other contemporary fighters similar to a Royal Air Force\"Hawker Hunter\" or a V.S.A.F. Republic \"Thunderstreak in arcticmarkings. These schemes are illustrated for the benefit ofthose who are interested in other than Navy coloring.
Any glow plug or diesel engine of from .09 to .19 can be usedto power this 230 square inch wing area model. Theengine should be installed upright in order to keep it free from harm and dirtduring the belly landings. An .09 will provide good sport flying while a .19 will really make thismodel zoom through manoeuvres on extra long lines. A .1S engine\' will enable the craft to perform any manoeuvre at moderate speeds. The aidoil is an original design with an 18 percent mean thickness. The prototype model weighed 16 ounces with a ,19 in the nose.
The two wheel take-off gear is very successful butnot entirely necessary. Although we prefer using the drop-off gear; there are times when we have our helper hand launch the model,especially over fairly tall grass which could snag the propeller. We have found that our modelcan be flown from fairly rough terrain ·in view of the\' quick take off and forward location of the wheels
A Man size \"LIl Blue Angel-- For large engines can be developed by enlarging the FULLSIZE PLANS to twice their size. This model will have a wingspan of 64 and atotal length of 48\". Effective wing area will be a good 800 square incheswhich can accommodate engines from .35 to .60 cubic inch displacement, althoughthe .49 size would be ideal for average stunt Flying with this size
Those model builders who care to build this craft for Half‑A engines should reduce the FULLSIZEPLANS to three quarters of the original size This will produce a wing span of24\" and a total length of 18 \"The resulting 105 square inches a wing area will prove ideal for .035 to .074cubic inch displacement engines.
