Model 1840 Cavalry Marked PDL Maker Civil War Sword with sword knot:

This is an original Civil War Model 1840 Cavalry Sword with an old leather US issued Cavalry Sword Knot. The maker is PDL or also known as P.D. Luneschloss whom started making swords in 1810. PDL was a German sword maker importer whose blades and markings are found on some of the better and significant American swords and Sabres. The blade is 36 inches long and has a nice dark patina. The brass hilt has either the number 70 or 79 stamped in and couldpossibly be a mark over for reissue sword. The grip is missing it\'s leather and wire. There is a very slight looseness to the hilt and it could use a ping to tighten it. The scabbard has some old patina, surface rust and some pitting. It looks 150+ years old. The scabbard is also missing the throat fitting and it has some old replacement rings that could use a little alignment. It is possible that the scabbard was painted at some point and possibly hung in a GAR Hall or something. I\'ll let the buyer research and judge that. The sword knot appears to be very old and after some research on it that it looks to be a United States issued Cavalry sword knot from the Civil War era. Shipping is free and thanks for looking.
