  • OWN A GUITAR HAND-MADE BY THE LUTHIER (CRAFTSMAN) WHO BUILT FOR SEGOVIA! This instrument was crafted by Manuel Contreras Sr. himself in his studio at Calle Mayor 80, Madrid. Its rare woods have been carefully preserved and mellowed over the years to produce rich basses and clear trebles. This is a prime example of Old World craftsmanship and is a collector’s item.
  • M.G. Contreras I (Sr.) built for Jose Ramirez III in Madrid from 1959 until 1962. Contreras Sr. honed his skills in the Ramirez workshop where he built the first Ramirez concert guitar for Andres Segovia. When he opened his own shop at Calle Mayor, 80. Concert and Professional Level instruments were built by M.G. Sr. personally, and by his son, Manuel II, and by both. M.G. Sr. continued building guitars until his death in 1994. Thereafter, Manuel II continued the family tradition until his death in 2011.
  • DON\'T BE FOOLED! Guitars made by M.G. Contreras (Sr.) are distinguished by the label. If the label says \"Guitarreria\" the instrument is a student guitar built in a factory outsourced by Contreras. If the label says \"Guitarra de Estudio\", it was made in the Contreras workshop by an apprentice or assistant to Contreras. Only if the label says \"Luthier\" is the instrument made by Contreras. These labels greatly affect the value of the instrument, \"Luthier\" being the highest valued. If the label is personally signed by Contreras Sr., the guitar\'s value increases by several thousand dollars. This guitar produces an impressive sound palette; its overall sound is strong and authoritative with wonderful balance, great projection and sustain in all registers. The basses are strong, warm and resonant, the trebles have a clear voice projecting immediate attack and producing a full and rounded tone with great separation.
