Leader LAS-5500 \"Audio System Analyzer\"
This is a very special, and quite rare, piece of audio test equipment that combines several different major functions usually only available separately. In 1977, this listed for $1,995.00 ($8,250.00 in today\'s money!). This unit may need calibration to meet specifications. An seller has the operating and service manuals on DVD. NEW NOTE: I have added 6 photos of the inside of the 5500 so you can see what you are really getting. This unit has numerous printed circuit boards, plus a card cage with 3 boards in it, the 3\" CRT extends 3/4ths the depth of the case. The audio 101 dB attenuator is fully shielded with coaxial cables for the input and the output signals. This is very commercial quality, more like Hewlett-Packard/Agilent construction, better than Heathkit by a lot. Most cables have connectors for ease of test and servicing. Notice how pristine the insides are.1) Audio generator - 10 Hz to 1.0 MHz, less than 0.5% THD.2) Calibrated Attenuator - 0 to 1 MHz, 3 Decade, 0 to 101dB, normally connected to generator, but can be switched to an External Input for stand-alone operation. Switchable 600 Ohm load for calibrated unloaded signals. 2% accuracy (+-0.2dB). The entire attenuator is completely shielded3) Flutter Meter, with Drift Detector (separate meter), 3.0kHz Output for recording on tape. CCIR (European new), JIS (Japanese), and DIN (European old) Weighting Calibration. No NAB weighting. You can turn the weighting off. 3.00kHz or 3.15kHz. Wide range automatic leveling for ease of measurement. See photos 6 & 9. Leader was a leader in Wow & Flutter measurement; the stand-alone units were sold in 10\'s of thousands, and retailed for $995 in 1980.4) AC Voltmeter calibrated with 12 ranges for dB or dBV. Left and Right Channel Switchable Inputs, Switchable filter for JIS (Japan) weighting. RCA inputs, too. Is switchable between Audio Inputs or Flutter measurement. See photos 6 & 10.5) Oscilloscope - DC to 10MHz vertical bandwidth, 3\" diameter, from Meter, or with External Vertical and Horizontal Inputs. The Vertical Attenuation and the Horizontal Time Base are calibrated. Triggering is Automatic at zero crossing. The Horizontal and Vertical inputs are AC/DC coupled. DC balance control provided through hole in case. See photos 6 & 8. Oscilloscope inputs on rear also, for permanent test setups. Scope controls are Intensity, Focus, Horizontal Position and Vertical Position. This is also an ideal way to view stereo separation, using it as an X-Y \'scope with Left and Right channels connected Vert. and Horiz. This is really a deluxe audio test scope, not a toy as it might appear. It\'s ease of use makes it a natural for someone new to oscilloscopes. The \'scope is worth the price I\'m asking.6) 100 Watt total Dummy Load Left and Right. 8 Ohms. This is a lot of power to dissipate, so it makes sense that the two loads would have been two separate 50 Watt resistors stored in the lid compartment. Because they are missing, I am including 2 brand new, 100 Watt each, dummy loads. This, plus replacing all the 8 rubber feet, repairing one of the latches, and new lid cover fasteners is why I have raised the price. This is all stuff you would have to do, and I\'m good at it.Accessories - two oscilloscope probes, two banana adapters, numerous test cables, some damaged but easily repairable. Some notes: All knobs are present. The cable/adapter/probe box catches have been replaced, as have all rubber feet! I didn\'t show photos of the front, bottom, and one side, because they are in the same condition as the others. The lid is removable. The tilt-up bar is missing from the bottom; but the hardware for it is there. A new one could be bent up and installed. The photos are of the actual items for sale.
