In 1931 a group of allstars including Lou Gehrig and Lefty Grove had a tour of Japan.Yuasa & Co. made a series of baseball cards called bromides (photos with writing ) for the tour. Here one of Lefty Grove with a lovely fascimilie signature. Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide, 2nd Vintage Editionhas assigned this set a scarcity factor of R5, meaning that three or fewer examples of this card are known in the hobby. It is possible a few more have been found but this card is extremely rare. In a 2017 sale a variation of this card sold for more than $2000 Grove\'s performance on the Tour was by far the most outstanding by any pitcher, as he pitched 38 innings, posting a 0.00 ERA!
