AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING ART DECO - VICTORIAN JADE SNAKE BRACELET OF MUSEUM QUALITY DATING TO C1870-1920.  THE BRACELET OF 14-16K GOLD WITH AN EXTRAORDINARY NATURAL JADE CABOCHON OF VERY FINE QUALITY WITH RUBY EYES AND ABSOLUTELY STUNNING CLEAN LINE DESIGN AND ENGRAVED REPOUSSE WORK ON THE FACE. - A SUPERB ANTIQUE JEWEL!

This is a museum quality piece of jewelry.  The gold and gem set serpent bracelet is stunning!!!!!!  The design of this piece is the very best.  It is so simple and classic!  The beautiful gold and the curving form create a piece to die for! 

The head is set with a magnificent natural jade cabochon of 10 mm by 8 mm.  The eyes are gorgeous faceted rubies.  The face has a wonderful engraved repousse design.  The piece has a wonderful hinged design.  It opens and closes securely and has a safety chain.  It is such a dream and so very rare!

In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love.  It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth and wisdom.  The jewel is from the estate of a Beverly Hills aristocrat and dates to c1870-1920.

The interior of the bracelet is 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm) long and opens to fit over the hand.  The band is 11 mm wide.  From the head to the back of the tail portion is 38 mm long.  The necklace tests for 14-16K gold, probably 16K.  The bracelet is hollow and weighs 26.0 grams.  The jade and rubies are in excellent condition.

AT THE BONHAMS LONDON JEWELLERY sale ON THURSDAY 9 DECEMBER 2010 (SALE NUMBER 17851 LOT NUMBERS 5 - NECKLACE, AND 2 - BRACELETS) THE GOLD AND TURQUOISE SNAKE NECKLACE WAS ESTIMATED AT £3,000 TO £ 5000 AND ACTUALLY SOLD FOR £ 9,165 (APPROXIMATELY $14, 664).  THE TWO SNAKE BRACELETS IN LOT 2 SOLD FOR £15,520 ($24,832).  THUS SNAKE JEWELRY IS AN EXCELLENT INVESTMENT!!!
