He had his best season in 1949, helping the Dodgers win the pennant with a 10-6 record, 1 shut-out, and 3 saves in 48 games, including being the winning pitcher of the last game of the 1949 season, which clinched the pennant for the Dodgers. He appeared in 3 games of the 1949 WS with no record. Unfortunately for Banta, chronic arm problems forced his retirement at age 25 after the 1950 season.
