Magnificent Antique Chinese Hand Carved Lapis Lazuli Horse
SUPERB ANTIQUE CHINESE CARVED LAPIS LAZULI HORSE
This is an absolutelyexceptional work of art created in China during the early 1900s. This remarkable figure is made from a solid & verylargepiece of high quality lapis & the workmanship & stunning blue color of this fine stone is evident throughout.
Lapis lazuli is an age-old material in China, having a history of over 2400 years &was used exclusively by the imperial family. As there were extremely high requirements on the hierarchy of the users, this material was rarely seen in folk life.It was used inimperial buildings, as well as in mausoleum screen walls, religious temples,& foradornments in the early Ming Dynasty. It has alsobeen appraised as the top ware in the five famous Chinese wares of bullion, jade, lapis lazuli, porcelain and bronze, and isone of the seven Buddhist treasures. Chinese lapis lazuli is representativeof ancient Chinese culture featuring brilliance and magnificence,& symbolizes exquisiteness &delicacy, as well asan integration of emotion and art.As the number ofChinese collectorshas grown significantlyin recent years, ancient lapis lazuli products have been increasingly valued. Since lapis lazuli products made in the early age can hardly be found and those made in the Ming Dynasty have become rare, antiques of lapis lazuli have become the"precious articles" of many collectors.
This stunninghorse is carved with greatfinesse & attention to detail with striking features, expressive eyes, flared nostrils, pointed ears, muscular body, perfectly shaped legs & fetlocks, justperfectly formed from head to hoof. The sadlery, too, is exquisitewith Greek key embellishments on the strapping& pleated adornments to the saddle. This gorgeous creature measures 5-5/8 inches tall, 6-1/2 inches wide, and is quite heavy, weighing 1 lb, 3 oz (4 lbs, 5 oz packed). The horse is in excellent condition with no chips or damage whatsoever &comes in its original box, luxuriouslypadded &lined in creamy white satin, measuring 11 x 7-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches. The stand however, has long ago disappeared, but many fine antiquebases can be found to suit this magnificent animal. This is a truly rare treasure & I am offering it without reserve.
Although this extremelyfine piece is being offered without reserve, I will not allow it to sell for a paltry sum. If the offerding is not at a satisfactory level by 12 hours before sale ending, I will remove it. I need to know that buyers are serious & not merely watching. Otherwise, I will send it to one of the fine sale houses that I use. Thank you for your understanding.

Many of the items which I will be listing, belonged to my family on my father's side, beginning with my great-great-grandfather, who was from England & a Rear Admiral in the Royal English Navy, stationed in Jamaica. His sonstarted a shipping company, based in both Jamaica & Galveston, Texas. Whileon a delivery to Central America, the ship was caught in a violent storm, and sadly, all aboard perished at sea, except for my grandmother & her sister, mygreat aunt. While accompanied bytheir guardian, & insubsequent years together, they spent every summer on the Continent, especially France, and in England. While there, they purchased a myriad of fine antiques & objets d'art. Her dining room chairs were donated to the Smithsonian! Some alsooriginate from my mother's side of the family. Her grandfather was a silversmith, & his work, which is very rare, is displayed in the Tennessee State Museum, in Nashville.I will be listing some of these, along with lovely things that I have collected in my own travels. There will be many wonderful itemsin the weeks to come (Asian antiques, bronzes, finesilver, objets d'art....!). Hopefully, some will be bought together, in order to carry on the traditionwith another family, as I have no children, nordoes my sister. So, here ends the Alexander history, only to begin again somewhere new.
I try so hard to give5 Star Service. PLEASE, if you are unhappy about anything to do with shipping cost ortransit time, or ANYTHING, contact me & we will work it out. I have ALWAYS sent my items out within 3-4 days of payment. It is not my fault if the Postal Service delays the delivery, ESPECIALLY in shipping internationally. International Buyers, please wait for an invoice reflecting your additional shipping cost (remind me if I forget!), & please contact me for ashipping quote before the end of the sale. Customs duties are not part of the shipping cost & are the sole responsibility of the buyer. As far as shipping goes, it is complicated! I am going to try to always ship Priority Mail ($5.20, 10.95, 14.95), if possible, with Delivery Confirmation (.80),plus $2.00 Handling Feefor packing supplies, topay theperson whotakes my packages to the PO, as well as for's new 9%fee on shipping costs. This can be expensive, so sometimesI willuse USPSFirst Class Mail.If you would like insurance (required for items over $200), pleaselet me know & I will send an invoice withinsurance included.PLEASE communicate with me! I ameasy to work with& fair.
Iam no longer accepting returns at the suggestion of an representative, due to some buyers taking advantage of the new Buyer Protection Policy. They have opened cases against me for Item Not as Described, for unwarranted reasons, & my money is held for 20 days, while I fight the dispute, which I have always won, but I cannot afford to do business in this manner, so PLEASEperuse all of my extremely detaileddescriptions, photos, & policies, then make an informed decision prior to offerding. If the item is damaged in transit, which is very unlikely, as I am a meticulous packer & seller,it must be taken to the post office & a claim filed, along with the original packing, but I will work closely with you, if this ever occurs. If lost, I will handle theclaim with the Postal authorities. So please, read EVERYTHING that is printed & look carefully at the photos, then make an informeddecisionbefore offerding. If you have questions,PLEASE ask me before offerding ends.
