EXTREMELY RARE (no REALLY, I MEAN IT)- DONT MISS THIS CHANCE!!ARE YOU RETRO ENOUGH FOR THIS??I have only seen ONE of these on EVER and THIS IS IT. The casing on the filter bank box is really ugly-that is the way I got it a number of years ago.
It looks like the anodizing wore off or something. But that doesn\'t affect the operation, and you wont find a better example on or probably anywhere else.
Turns out though that I have another one that I got from my old college recording studio back in the 90\'s just before they were going to throw it out, so I am willing to part with this one and keep mine.
This is a professional (for 1979) Spectrum Analyzer board for Apple ][. EVENTIDE was (and still is) a high end PRO AUDIO manufacturer, famous for their effects units and electronic harmonizers. Almost anything of theirs from the 1970s is collectible and expensive- do a search for EVENTIDE CLOCKWORKS on the Google.
THIS IS VERY EARLY APPLE STUFF, and pretty sophisticated considering the II+ was just getting started when this came out.
I doubt Eventide sold many of these, as it is a niche Pro Audio item and was pretty expensive at that.
THAT MAKES IT ALL THE RARER, right?The system consists of an interface board, a connection for a mono audio source, a hardware FILTER BANK box, and firmware on ROM.
You hook this baby to the Apple II, and an audio source (like your audio mixer or tape outs) and invoke FIRMWARE commands (there is no disk software- it is all on the chip!!) and it runs a REAL TIME SPECTRUM ANALYZER on screen.
1/3 octave means the frequencies are divided into 30 discrete slices of the audio input.
You can use it in your own programs easily with some POKES and PEEKs or machine-language calls.
It has:
Log/Linear representation
Slow/Fast decay time
Averaging on/off
Color representation of frequency vs amplitude
Gain controlled by software
Peak Hold
Decay Rate
and some other stuff I don\'t remember as I write this...
Now, there is a small program in INTEGER BASIC you run to initialize the board. You can INIT it from the Integer BASIC command line or from a little program I wrote to do it on 5.25\" floppy so I will INCLUDE A FREE COPY of that as well.

The manual is actually pretty cool, as it looks like it was printed on a plotter, and the writing is kind of casual/funny until they get into the deep details of how it works.**NOTE: YOU NEED AN APPLE II or II+ TO COMPLETE THE SYSTEM AND MAKE IT WORK.

It works on Apple II and II+ but not sure it works on Apple IIe as they weren\'t invented before this was. I could hook it up to a IIe I have around and see.THIS IS AN AWESOME ITEM for either an APPLE ][ Collector, Music Gear NUT OR a recording studio that wants something odd NO ONE ELSE AROUND HAS.
Spectrum analyzers are easy to come by, but not one with THIS MUCH MOJO!!!There is VERY LITTLE info on the web regarding this board-believe me I have tried.
But the manual is very useful and has the complete schematics.I GUARANTEE IT WILL WORK OR YOU CAN RETURN IT FOR MONEY BACK (you pay shipping back to me, and I test it just in case you goofed up somehow.)
