DESCRIPTIONThis is a wonderfully preserved crank organ which functions welland has a beautiful appearance. It is stamped with a productiondate of January 3, 1906.Introduced by the Autophone Company of Ithaca New York in the 1880\'s,this instrument is a hand cranked pump organ. When the crank is turned theair is pumped through the reeds. The reeds are operated by the music cylinders,called cobs, which rotate as the handle is turned. Each song is three rotations ofthe cylinder in time. Five cobs are included in this sale as well as the original,I think, oil can. Names of the songs are: AMERICA, -- ST. PATRICKS DAY ----NEARER MY GOD TO THEE ---- OLD HUNDRED --- PREMIERE MARCH.All the cobs have been played and work well. SEARS was an authorized distributer for these instruments and in the photosyou will see the page from the 1902 SEARS catalog showing the basic modelGem Roller organ. The Concert was the mid price model of the 3 modelsproduced.The cabinet is of Mahogany with gold stenciling all in very nice condition.OPERATIONAL CHECKS:In addition to playing the songs the reset function is tested and needed a little cleaningand oil to bring out its best. At the end of 3 rotations the mechanism slides back tostart position on a shaft. The bellows have good compression as felt during turningof the crank.. The reeds have been tested with out a cob, by operating eachvalve individually. They all play and seem to be in tune, and all the valve springsare in place.
