Meet 19-in. Schoenhut doll 308, designed by Mr. Leslie and issued in 1916 during the company\'s Classic period.* With deep intaglio blue eyes, sweet closed mouth, and sharply modeled profile, this doll is very special.
It\'s clear she was much loved and played with. Her attached blonde wig is not original, her right elbow and right knee joints are loose, her face is flawed with paint loss on nose and mouth, and her body is scuffed throughout. There has been no touch-up or repaint applied to her.
This doll has the decal mark on her shoulder. She wears a perfectly fitted new dress with dropped waist, as well as new shoes, in the style of the period. It\'s possible her lace-trimmed union suit is an original Schoenhut piece, but it was made for a larger doll.
As the photos indicate, this Classic Schoenhut doll is still---after almost a century, and despite her imperfections---a great beauty. Carol Corson writes that if you \"could have only one Schoenhut, this (model 308) is the one to go for.\"*
