This British pattern 1853 civil war sword was widely imported by the Confederates and was a favorite of Confederate cavalry.The blade is mostly bright with some evidence of sharpening years ago. The all iron hilt is clean with no pitting. The original press leather checkered grips are excellent. The scabbard has pitting throughout.The sword is unmarked which would indicated it being a Confederate sword. Issued with the 1860 cavalry saber but not nearly as common.
