Bowie or fighting knife, blacksmith or handmade, Civil War. For Sale

Very definitely a 24.5\" sword blade fashioned into a fighting knife or a soldier\'s ideal of a Bowie. The overall length including the grip is 29.5\". The grip is of a close grained hardwood. The pommel washer and nut is missing. The grip tapers from 1.04\" to 1.46\" at the top of the swell. The grip resembles an elongated file handle in style. This knife was found in a barn near Conway, South Carolina. There is no known history of the item. The sword blade measures 1.0\" at the ricasso with a thickness of .290\". The blade has been honed to a very sharp edge at one time. Interestingly, the stopped fuller cuts are crude compared to Northern and British made blades of the American Civil War period. This could be Confederate, but it is hard to proclaim that even though the little knowledge about the item seems to whistle Dixie. Any input from our readers out there is always of interest. Never the less, it is for sale.
