Beautiful, large, vintage leather hippopotamus footstool. I have owned him for 10 or 11years, and the lady I bought him from had owned him from new for many years - she said her children had grown up with him - and she bought him from Liberty. Having said that, there are no Omersa or Liberty markings on him, but I am certain that this is what he is, and not all of the early ones were marked.
He is absolutely beautiful and is one of my treasures, but recentlymy husband bought me a large beautiful antique woolwork box footstool, so now, my hippo has no place :-(
He is gorgeous - strong brown hide leather, good stitching, although when we bought him, his tail had been pulled out - we intended to get it stitched back in, but never did - and where his tail is unstitched you can see the wood wool underneath. His eyes are made of rolled up leather and one of them has come a little unstitched at one side. He has a metal stud under each of his feet.
He measures 34 inches long, not including the tail, and at tallest , to his shoulder he measures 16 inches high.
These Omersa figures are things of beauty and wonderful craftsmanship. I discovered these a long time ago.
He isn't new, the years have just added character to him. He's fab, the tail and the eye don't, in my opinion detract, simply mentioned for accuracy. I am listing another of my personal "treasures" today, so please
I will post overseas, but please contact me before offerding. He won't go Small Packet!!!
