This sale is for a beautiful example of a Circa 1826 Antique Hobnail Safe made by Jesse Delano & Sons of New York City. Delano was the first safe maker in the United States founded in 1824, just 2 years prior. This safe has been fully restored to its original condition. The safe retains its original fitted tiger wood interior with one drawer, and 2 original keys. This safe is the deluxe model with 2 separate locking mechanisms. Both mechanisms must be opened to allow you access to the inside of the safe. The key hole for one of the locking systems is hidden behind a false sliding hobnail. The second locking mechanism is called a \"Day Lock\". The actuator for this lock is also hidden behind a different Hobnail. Dimensions are 32\"H x 24\"W 23\"D. Weight is approx. 400 lbs. You will see other hobnail safes on , but they are either in need of full restoration or are beyond repairing. This safe needs nothing.
