Antique Marguerat (Swiss) singing bird box with original presentation case

Marguerat singing bird boxes arewell known for exceptional enameling and intricate case-work designs and this example is no exception. I always get excited when I find an exceptional antique singing bird box and the only aspect that tops that feeling is when one is found that sings a different song. Literally 99.999% of all going barrel singing bird boxes have the same cam pattern and therefore bird song. This very early Marguerat has a slightly different cam pattern and song that is incredibly complex and sweet sounding. An added bonus is the original presentation case which is highly uncommon to find.

Most of Marguerat\'s work is from 1920 to 1931 (he died in 1931) and this bird box dates to between 1910 and 1915. Upon close examination of the movement, you will notice that the governor mechanism more closely resembles a Flajoulot design rather than the design that Marguerat eventually adopted as his own. This mechanism runs exceptionally smooth and quiet yet the bird sings will full voice with incredible note oscillation.The mechanism is wound by athumb winder that folds down.

The gold gilt case is remarkable andthe hand painted andenameled lid scene isvery fine without any damage or repairs.

The bird is a plethora of iridescent rainbow hues thatcapture the lightremarkably well and present themselves differently depending on your viewing angle.
