RARE Unique Lever Drive Antique FLIVVER Pedal Tricycle with Metal Fenders and Wood Seat Old Child’s Riding Toy! Made c. 1920\'s by Automatic Cradle Manufacturing Companyof Stevens Point Wisconsin USA!Enjoy as is or restore!

Old Barn Find! Underneath the cobwebs and rust, we found this unique rare antique lever drive tricycle!

A transitional piece, this tricycle has lever action mechanism more like pedal cars or irish mails back in the day. Rather than the typical chain, bars are attached to pedals which are attached to a shaped rear axle that propels the back wheels when pedaling.

Uniquely the slant of the front assembly and front pivot steering give this tricycle the styling and look of power of a cool custom motorcycle, too!

Handle Bars are attached to front pole piece and smaller front wheel. Front piece pivots side to side for steering.

Features:

· Handpainted Black and Red.

· Long Wood Seat Painted Red attached to metal chassis.

· Hard Rubber Hand Grips Attached to Metal Handle Bars Attached to Wood Dowel Front Assembly Attached to Solid Metal Wheel Assembly .

· Front Assembly Attaches to Seat and Pedal Assemblies with 2 pivot pin assemblies.

· Unique Metal Fenders attached to seat

· Unique Old Style Lever Bar Action Assembly Attaches Pedals to Rear Axle. Lever Drive Action!

· Hard Rubber Tires on Painted Solid Steel Wheels. Two Larger back tires. One Smaller Front Tire. One tire is missing rubber treading completely.

Maker Marks: After an extensive search, we have been unable to identify maker.Missing decals. We could not find any maker marks. ***Update: A very thoughtful collector sent us the following information (Thank you!) :

\"FYI,this is made by Flivver,it came in 2 sizes,I have oneand have a ad from a childs toy magazine dated December 1927,,,I hope this isof some help to you and your buyers\"

With this information, we were able to find some more identification information linked to one photo of a tricycle (with a decal)that matched the flivver tricycle in this listing that is missing any decal information. Ourresearch shows this tricycle was made by the Automatic Cradle Manufacturing company of Stevens Point Wisconsinin the 1920\'s. (This company was well known for the \"Original Self-Swinging Crib\".)

Condition: Very unique antique tricycle with wonderful old world charm and character in nice vintage working condition – a rare treasure for any collector! Please see pictures and read description for details!

Sure, this gem isn\'t in pristine condition. It has use and playwear with all its noticeable character and charm showing all the marks that a well used antique should! The lever pedal mechanism works as it should to propel trike. The bumps, bruises, and scratches help tell the life story of this beauty and it really wouldn\'t be the same without them! Missing decals, butresearch idbelieved to beFLIVVER, Automatic Cradle Mfg. Co. c. 1920\'s.

The wood seat is complete with a couple minor cracks, surface scratches/rubs, paint loss, dings, and edgewear, as pictured. It may have some early repaints/touchups? There is residue of a decale on the seat (that appears to have been a turkey?) that was either painted over or has rubbed off over the years? We aren’t sure. When we cleaned this piece up, we left part of a gold star on front pole that a child may have added long ago as a badge on his treasured toy.

The metal parts have dings, paint loss, rubs, chips, and rust spots, as pictured. We cleaned this piece and conditioned the old dried rubber tires, grips, and pedals to save as much as we could, but did no restoration to it. We think it’s beautiful “as is” and will leave any restoration up to the winning buyer’s preference and expertise.

Please note: Hard rubber is worn and cracked as pictured. One tire has lost all of its hard rubber. (Kinda interesting to see how they made the metal rim which you don’t normally see!) The rubber on the other back tire and front tire have wear and deep cracks, but we seem to have stabilized it with conditioning and for now what is there looks pretty good. The rubber on the pedals looks really good and smooth for its age. The rubber on the grips held its shape but is pitted, rough , and somewhat misshapen from being dry. One rear wheel is missing its center metal cover cap. Paint Loss on Metal wheels as pictured.

The front assembly is interesting and well-made with lots of parts as pictured. Metal plates and screws are attached to wood dowel that connects the metal handlebar assembly and front wheel assembly. It is attached with pivot pins to metal bars that are attached to wood seat, as pictured. A bent nail with a washer acts as a lynch pin at the top of assembly attached to wood seat to keep pivot pins of wheel assembly from lifting out. (Nail and washer are painted black so look to be original, and without them front wheel assembly can be lifted out and separated from seat/pedal assembly. Front wheel turns easily on pivot pins right and left. If I were restoring this, there is a large round washer by top pivot pin that wraps around the front wood dowel that could possibly be bent tighter to add even more stability (may have just come loose over the years) which I will leave to winning buyers expertise, but thought I’d point it out.

Overall, really this is just an interesting piece of history!

A great original focal decorator piece for your home, museum, cafe or retail outlet that’s sure to be an ever constant conversation starter stimulating memories of days gone by!

This isapreviously owned used(not new) item and should be considered as such.
