COMPANY HISTORY:

J.F. Hartz Company began in Detroit, Michigan providing surgical instruments along with medical supplies and equipment. Within a few decades, significant advancements in medicine allowed the J.F. Hartz Company to swiftly evolve from a local pharmaceutical manufacturer into a major healthcare company with national recognition. In the 1950′s it became known as Ferndale Laboratories, Inc.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

When textiles were initially brought to SC, several progressive mills created a \"textile mill village\" that was built in conjunction with the mill to support their employees and their families. Other than the \"company store\" and free housing several community services were provided.

Medical Care was provide by a medical doctor and Registered Nurses in the from of day care, prenatal, women/children delivery hospital, preventive care, clinic and family visits.

Family Services included baby/child day care, youth afternoon & summer activities \"very similar to YMCA” and adult/family social & cultural events.

These medical collectibles are from a SC MD\'s private collection of medical equipments and surgical tools used in serving a SC textile mill\'s employees and families between 1930 and 1965. The OB-GYN instruments were used initially in the SC mill\'s women/childrenhospital prior to 1940.

I am NOT an expert!!!!!! All items are in the condition I received them in. Some antiques are best left in original condition, so I have left these for you to clean as you wish. I will be adding items as I can get them photographed and researched.
