This brass weight set has five pieces. The cover of the box is stamped with the letter S, the number 8, a hallmark that seems to be the letters IS with a crescent moon between the letters, and 1848, which we\'re guessing is the date of manufacture.
We\'re no experts but we guess that this set is from Europe.
The round lid measures about 1 3/8\" across. Measuring the length of the lid on the \'straps\', it is 1 3/4\" wide. The lid of the box is 5/8\" high, but the top of the hinge is 3/4\" high. The base is about 7/8\" wide.
We weighed them on our digital scale...
All together all five pieces weigh 110 grams, 3.8 ounces.The box, which is unmarked on the inside, weighs 57 grams.The next smaller size is marked 2, and weighs 29 grams.The middle piece is marked 1, and weighs 14 grams.The next piece is unmarked, and weighs 7 grams.The smallest piece is unmarked, and weighs 3 grams.
