Offered today is a wonderful, ANTIQUE 1918 THE GIBSON GIBSON L 3 ARCH TOP ACOUSTIC PARLOR GUITAR w Non Original Hard Case in excellent, used overall condition at a newly REDUCED PRICE. Finish looks to be red mahogany sunburst.

DESCRIPTION:

This instrument features an arched spruce bound top, a round sound hole with 3 inlaid rings, an arched bound maple back, maple sides, a \"V\" shaped profile neck with bound ebony fingerboard having MOP dot inlays, a mahogany head stock w MOP inlaid script \"THE GIBSON \" & fleur de lis design, the original celluloid & black Bakelite? bridge pins & nickel tailpiece assembly w adjustable rosewood bridge & one original rear bone strap pin. Oval paper label inside of body marked in pencil with serial number 40933.

CONDITION:

Tuner plates &open gear assembly have been replaced, plastic buttons may be original. Pickguard is long gone & personally, aesthetically, we think this beauty looks much better without the guard. There looks to be a 5 1/2\" long crack running vertically near the tailpiece on the treble bout side, but it seems fairly stable & may not go all the way through. There is also another 3 1/2\" long hairline on the rear of the body on the lower bass bout which is slightly indented but is not a crack, regardless of what the images show. There is also a 1/2\" long line running below the joint where the neck attaches to the body, but it also is stable. Instrument was totally gone over top to bottom, repaired & set up by our luthier, Chris DiPinto of DiPinto Guitars in Phila, PA. They did not feel that the few above mentioned blemishes needed to be treated as they did not affect the tone or the playability of the L 3. There is, what looks like a burn mark on the upper bass bout side possibly from a cigar or cigarette. Neither of these flaws affect the playing performance or the tone of this fine, antique Gibson. Due to the missing pick guard, there is significant play wear on the bass & treble bout sides of the top, especially where the axe would have been finger picked or strummed. So, there are ridges of wear running vertically with the grain of the spruce top. The finish is original & clean. The hard shell case is used but serves to protect this instrument well. Some of the yellow lining will need to be re glued. There is a lock on one of the latches but we have no key. Handle is secure & all latches function.

DIMENSIONS:

38 3/4\" long x 13 1/2\" wide x 4 1/2\" deep. Nut is bone & is 1 7/8\" wide. Neck is 1 7/8\" wide at the 1st fret & 2 5/16\" wide at the 12th fret. Neck joins body at the 13th fret. String height is 1/8\"at the 1st fret, 3/16\" at the 12th fret, and there are black dot side markers on the bass bout side of the fingerboard. Guitar weighs approx. 6 lbs.

NOTES:

This is a 2nd owner guitar & was purchased used from the original owner in the 1920\'s by the party from whom we purchased it. Plenty of life left in the frets, smooth ebony fingerboard, easy to use tuning pegs & a substantial, beefy width V shaped neck profile. This instrument was built to project over a bassist, drummer, piano & horns.

This instrument is immediately playable & will give a special someone many years of infinite enjoyment. Great for blues, jazz, C & W, etc. This instrument would give a great deal of pleasure to a collector, a player, or a professional. Obviously, this is being sold as is.
