The face of this radio measures 11 x 9\", is 8\" deep and weighs 12 poundsThis 1932/33 Philco 54C table radio is original and unrestored but responds to electricity and plays one station. This radio is ideal for someone who plans to refinish and electronically restore it. I bought this radio 15 years ago because I was interested in learning to restore vintage radios and was gathering a collection. I never had the military training of a radio operator in the Signal Corps in Korea like other old fart collectors and repair people, but I never had the time to learn even though I had the equipment and teachng video. Philco made three versions of the popular 54c between 1933 and 1935 and this is the first 1933 version. It has a simple but stylish cabinet. The 54c sold new for $25 and features 2 bands and an illuminated tuning dial. This set could be operated on either AC or DC current and had 5 tubes. There were 56,250 manufactured. There are marks on the wood and the finish is pretty worn, but there are no large chips or deep scratches. The wood grill is solid and undamaged. The original knobs are fine and the station indicator lights up when the unit is turned on and the radio receives WSB. The cabinet is in extraordinarily tight and strong so I spent time cleaning it and photographing.
Shipping will include protection of the tubes and double boxing of the radio. Instead of using a reserve in the offerding, I just list the \'start offerding\' number at what the radio\'s value is to me based on what I paid for it years ago, current condition, and demand. This minimizes the offerding for sure but it serves it\'s purpose and tests the market so I can tell if I\'m outta the ballpark with my value system. If so, I may adjust or maybe it stays on display for my sons to sell in 20 years or we will give to a museum Add $3.50 for insurance to the cost of postage. I spent a day cleaning up this beautiful, sturdy cabinet. The shellac or lacquor has flaked some which has affected what looks like a walnut cabinet. The PHILCO decal has part of two letters flaked. You would want to bring the cabinet back to it\'s original beauty. It receives WSB-AM, Atlanta\'s most powerful stations when the 25 foot ariel is extended. Volume is not what you want so seems like new caps and a tube need to be replaced. The cord has a short in it so a new vintage cloth covered power cord is needed and you would want to replace the grille cloth. The radio must run hot as there are many vents in the cabinet. Not mamy of these left that are still playable and candidates for upgrading the electronics. It\'s three years older than I am and in better condition than I am but I still get more than one station and so will this Philco with a little care. Believe me it\'s a heavy with that power supply.
