1916 World Champion Boston Red Sox Original Team Photo Featuring Babe Ruth For Sale

A rare, early Babe Ruth Boston Red Sox piece. This is an extraordinary cabinet style photograph, with original decorative mount, capturing the 1916 World Champion Boston Red Sox in a classic team pose. This is one of only a fewknown examples of this particular photo, which is sometimes found with a Stagg Sweaters advertising mount. (This identical image is featured in a Stagg Sweater advertisement on the back cover of the Red Sox’s 1916 World Series program.) Included in the mounted photograph are Hall of Famers Babe Ruth (seated in the center of the first row), Harry Hooper, Herb Pennock and the rest of the World Championship team. 1916 marked Babe Ruth’s second full season in the Major Leagues andhis first career World Series start that fall and it was certainly a memorable one. Ruth set a record for most innings pitched in a single World Series game when he went the distance in a 2-1 fourteen-inning victory over the Brooklyn Robins in Game 2. The photograph, which offers exceptional clarity, displays minor border wear that does nothing to detract from the central image and is in Excellent to Mint condition overall. (The photo has slightly disengaged from the mount along the edges but appears to be firmly adhered.) For the sake of accuracy the photo displays a small .75-inch tear along the left border, a few small, light stains in the lower left corner, and a few tiny pinholes along the top. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 16.25 x 14.25 inches. The photo measures (6.75 x 4.75 inches) with the visible dimensions (10.5 x 8.5 inches)
