From the famous Copeland Collection!

Offered for sale is a high-grade 1915 Boston Red Sox Real Photo Postcard that was first publiclysold as part of the famed Copeland Collection. This was Babe Ruth\'s rookie season (1915) and one of his earliest appearances on a piece of sports ephemera. The back of the postcard has a postmark of April 12, 1916.

The Copeland Collection was offered by Sotheby\'s in 1991 and to this day, is still the largest and most fantastic sale of vintage sports cards and memorabilia. It is perhaps most noteworthy for selling the highest-grade T206 Honus Wagner (later graded a PSA 8), which was purchased by Wayne Gretzky. The 1915 Boston Red Sox postcard was lot #732 in that same sale and featured a large, fully colored image. The condition was somewhat optimistically listed as \"Near Mint.\" The postcard was later sold by SCP sales in 2006 (Lot 277).

It is thought by most hobby experts that this postcard was produced in 1915 and was perhaps first distributed during the World Series. Today, a couple dozen known examples remain, making it somewhat more scarce than the T206 Honus Wagner. Of these examples, only a handful might be considered \"high grade\" and very few have a period postmark on back and verifiable provenance. VG-EX to EX condition.
