I\'m listing another eclectic assortment of antiques and collectibles, and I suspect there will be something to interest just about everyone.Here\'s a Rochester Optical \"Premier\" 5x7 detective camera manufactured in the 1890\'s. Detective cameras were known as such because of their appearance. Unlike tailboard cameras or folding cameras -- which were the \"norm\" in the 1880s and 1890s, and which could be readily identified as cameras by anyone familiar with the technology -- detective cameras appeared to be nothing more than wood boxes, perhaps containing a cache of pencils, trinkets, etc. With viewfinders discreetly built into the top and side, a detective camera could be employed to surreptitiously take photographs of subjects not just head on, but from a ninety degree angle as well.Condition is reasonably good, given the camera\'s age, with normal signs of wear, but no signs of abuse or neglect. Nice original Rochester Premier lens, and the ground glass focusing plate is original and in excellent condition, with no cracks or other damage. Viewfinder lenses and mirrors are intact, original and undamaged. Handle is original and in good shape. Rack and pinion focusing mechanism is working properly, and the lens throws a sharp image against the back plate. Shutter is mechanically intact but needs servicing. Exterior leather exhibits wear consistent with its age and normal camera use.As detective cameras go, this is a fairly large one. Measures approximately 9\" wide by 8\" high by 15\" deep. Shipping weight will be about 10 lb.That\'s about it. One of the two release buttons for the front door (release buttons are located on top of camera) is missing. Both of the brass release catches are present, but they will need to be adjusted in order for the front door to stay closed. Not that big a deal, but I just noticed it myself and felt I should mention it.
