The item up for sale is an original Early antique game board made circa 1855.It is the game board only, no box and no pieces.The exterior has a printed paper label which reads : \"The Game of Goose. Instructional and Amusing. Manufactured by Charles Akerman, Providence R.I.\"The lower edge of the game board has a printed inscription which reads : \"Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1855 by D. Carroll, in the Clerk\'s office of the District Court of the District of [,,,]. Lith. of Knowles, Anthony & Co. Prov [...].\" [The brackets indicate lost text.] The game board is a circular path to the center with small vignettes showing geese & farmyard scenes.The instructions are printed in the center of the board.The exterior is covered in orange & black marble paper with a red cloth binding strip on the joint.The board measures 20 X 14 7/8 inches when opened.

The board is in fair condition due to a loss in the lower right corner; small losses to the paper surface in the lower center of the playing board; a stain on the upper edge in the center; soiling; bends in the tips of the corners; small scattered stains; wear to the edges & corners; surface rubbing; scratches on the paper label on the exterior and a small loss on the left edge of the paper covering on the front exterior half. The red cloth strip is soiled and has small stains.

I could find no sale or sales records for the game on Worthpoint or any other internet searches.The game board came from the estate of Alex G. Malloy, who is the author of \"American Games: Comprehensive Collector\'s Guide.\" (Krause Publications, 1999.)The game is listed in Malloy\'s game guide : page 19 cat # 308 Value $800.00.
