1840 Dragoon S&K Saber & Scabbard & Strap S&K For Sale

An excellent M 1840 Solingen Schnitzler & Kirschbaum Heavy Cavalry Saber. Nicknamed the wrist breaker. Engraved on the brass guard by the user G.S.S pictures provided. The only flaw this set has is a very small nick on the blade and a very small dent on the scabbard. The blade is stamped Solingen on one side and S&K on the other. It could be Union or Confederate since they were ordered by both sides. I would wage this one to have been used by the South. The family member that inherited this saber said that some of her family had come from Louisiana as far as they can search back to. This is the one you want in your collection. Cannot hardly upgrade from this. There is a number 15 and an alligator at each prong at the pinned hinge. There is a number 4 and a 7 stamped on the leather. Strap measures 49\" long from hook end to hook end. The width 1 1/4\". The snap swivels date to the Civil War period and earlier. Saber in scabbard length 43\" - blade pommel to tip length 40 1/4\" - blade length. 35\". Blade and grip are tight. The south made due any way possible to get equipment to use in battle. The length of the strap allows it to fit over the shoulder and allows the saber to hang to the side. Leather, snaps, shows the age.
