Four Key Boxwood Flute (1817 - 1837) Whitaker of London [Restored]: $438.00
Four Key Stained Boxwood Flute made by Whitaker of London sometime between 1817-1839. Brass mounts. The flute was purchased in the U.K. Upon arriving here in the U.S., the head developed a crack and I sent it to a professional to repair. The technician: \"new head cork, head crack sealed, new tenon threads, and new key pads . . . There is one other previous crack I found in the tenon of the right hand joint. It was previously pinned, but has ever so slightly opened, so I\'ll reseal that as well. The brass pin for the F key is brittle, so I\'ll replace that for you . . . I found a maker\'s mark. \"Whitaker, London\". Langwill has him active from the late 18th century through to the early 19th century, so this is an old flute! Good find! \"I am a poor flute player. I can sound the flute from low D (weak) into the third octave. The joints would seal better with a bit more tenon thread and I am sure that would improve the low D (as well as someone that is properly trained to play flute).I got and had the flute repaired to use in living history demonstrations but have found a fife is better suited for field displays - thus this flute is surplus to my needs and should find a home that will make better use of it.Please do look closely at the pictures. I did the best job I could given the instrument\'s dark wood tones. In person, I believe it is quite attractive and sounds pretty.Prudent disclaimer: This is a used, nearly 200 year old instrument. I can offer no guarantees to how it will perform in your climate or in your hands. Shipping: If you purchase the flute with \"Buy It Now\" I will refund the postage (within the continental U.S.) that the checkout system will charge. All others areas I will refund $20. I was asked a few details by a potential buyer. It is 53.5 cm from the middle of the blow hole to the end. It plays A at 440 with the head pulled 2.5 \"rings.\"I am limited to 12 pics through .
